In the 2024, I was asked to help with the learning phase of the Yukon Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform. Like its Ontario and BC versions, this was a demographically diverse group of citizens assembled to learn, deliberate and make recommendations on what would be the ideal electoral system for the Yukon. One member was chosen from each of its nineteen electoral districts and spent significant time learning about electoral systems around the world and which alternative, if any, would be ideal for Yukoners.
You can read about how the assembly members learned from this CBC clip and how this form of deliberative democracy is becoming a more common in this Yukon News article.
